The Spokesman Review reports Idaho already has the worst immunization rate in the nation and now as the Department of Health and Welfare has to implement cuts resulting from the last legislative session, the only thing that can be said is...at least it can't get worse. Oh wait,
I guess there are still many third world countries that might be lower than Idaho.
I realize it was a challenging legislative session as state revenue continued to plunge, but I can't feel great about this quote from Governor's Health and Welfare Budget Analysts,
Without a replacement of funds, children will be at risk. I do not know many parents who can afford the estimated $4300 that would currently be needed to pay for all of the required immunization from birth to age 18.
They might not have to make cuts if their IT department wasn't so badly run. They waste money like no IT group that I've ever seen, and most of that on contractors that don't even live in Boise. They have at least 20 positions that are being held by guys/gals from out of state when they could fill those spots with permanent employees at half the rate, not to mention the fact that a lot of us in IT are laid off and ready and willing to jump in do what ever they need to get their projects done. Health and welfare my ass... They are wasting millions and asking for money from the fed and then doing cutbacks to essential services all the while paying guys from out of state 120k a year to do a job that an Idahoan would and could do for 60k. The stories I've heard about their management and how they run things is insane, they once hired 6 contractors that spent 3-6 months on a project to convert it from one programming language to another, after all that work and money they scrapped the project.
Drives me crazy.
Don't get me wrong, they need an IT group they are practically in the dark ages over there, but why the hell can't they get some one good to manage that mess?
